The Festival of the Trees has grown to become an Erie tradition for many years, and this year proves no different. The festival will be held at Marriott's Ambassador Conference Center Nov. 25-29.
The festival displays a variety of Christmas trees for a good cause. Each tree is decorated by local florists and is donated by various businesses throughout Erie.
Every tree has its own unique theme. In past years, there have been more than 50 trees involved in the festival. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Saint Vincent Auxiliary hosting this festival.
During the festival, participants have the opportunity to vote on which tree or trees they think deserve first, second or third place.
At the close of the festival, the trees are raffled, and others can be donated to local Erie charities located throughout the community.
"For approximately the past three years we, the Erie Federal Credit Union, have participated in the Festival of the Trees," said Norb Kaczmarek, CEO of Erie Federal Credit Union.
"This year our tree was $500 and Larese Floral will be picking the theme and decorating it. In the past we have raffled off our tree but this year we have decided the tree will be going out to our 38th Street office."
While visitors peruse the trees, they will be able to enjoy a cocktail, hors d'oeuvres and local musical entertainment provided by the McDowell Vocal Ensemble, Iroquois Brave Sound Show Choir and Cathedral Prep Jazz Band, to name just a few.
"I've been going there the past two years and I enjoy admiring all the different trees, how they are decorated; some are very ugly, some are very beautiful, and some are over-done," said Sandy Foltz, a retired elementary school teacher and Union City resident. "The festival is very organized, great themes, music, location and accessibility."
For the kids, breakfast and brunch with Santa is also available. Tickets are $15 for children and $18 for adults. Breakfast starts at 9 a.m., and brunch starts at 1 p.m. Regular admission tickets are $2.50 for children and $5 for adults.
