State-of-the-campus address turns heads

Fourth annual Tech Fest deals  with campus technology issues

On Wednesday, Sept. 16 Technology and Communications held the fourth annual Tech Fest, providing Edinboro students with a chance to learn more about the ever-changing technology at the university and provide help to those with questions. Each table had employees that gave presentations on several types of programs the campus offers. (0) comments

The Student Government Association (SGA) met in the Multipurpose Room of the Frank G. Pogue Student Center Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. to discuss amendment proposals to the organization's constitution. "We've had meetings like this over the past three years," said SGA President Jamie Lutz. (0) comments

As part of Baron Forness Library's Brown Bag Speakers Series, social work professor Suzanne McDevitt presented a lecture titled "Food Stamps for College Students and Other Lessons from Poverty." According to McDevitt, the need for food assistance is on the rise. (0) comments

Constitution Day sparks discussion on life issues

The Pogue Student Center hosted a faculty panel the evening of Sept. 15 to celebrate Constitution Day. The panel included Jim Fisher, Rhonda Matthews, Steve Sullivan and James Drane. David Ferster served as the moderator for the discussion of the Constitution and end-of-life issues. (0) comments

General Electric (GE) announced Tuesday, Sept. 15, that 1,480 hourly employees would be placed on permanent layoff at the Lawrence Park plant located in Erie. A core supplier to the rail industry, GE has seen an extreme decline in locomotive production . (0) comments

First Niagara Financial Group Inc. has acquired 57 National City branches in and around Erie, Pittsburgh, and Warren, while also branding ATMs in 95 Sheetz stores in Western Pennsylvania. The closest First Niagara branch to Edinboro is located in Erie. With the official branding of the local Sheetz in Edinboro, customers will now be provided with a convenient surcharge free ATM transaction. (0) comments

The revamped Crossroads Dinor is offering a new take-out menu and delivery service since its reopening. The placement of the dinor, 101 Plum Street at the intersection with Route 99, is an ideal location at the "crossroads" of the two busiest streets in Edinboro. (0) comments

Members of the Edinboro University and Erie police departments will be traveling to Pittsburgh this week to assist national and Pittsburgh-based law enforcement during the Group of Twenty (G-20) summit, to be held Sept. 24-25 at locations throughout the city. (0) comments

Here we are in September, and the Edinboro community is already starting to get ready to fight bacteria-related diseases. Not feeling well is one thing but then to have to pay the costs of drugs can be a hassle as well. Thanks to Giant Eagle they can help alleviate the pain. (0) comments

Here at Edinboro University, recycling is made accessible to everyone. Recycling bins can be seen standing guard at the entrance to every building. These same bins line the hallways accompanied by their trash counterparts. They are available in the dorms, classrooms, teacher's lounges, and department offices to name a few. (0) comments
